The Montgomerie, Carton House, Ireland |
| |
| Dating back to the 17th century, Carton House was formerly the ancestral home of the Fitzgeralds, Earls of Kildare. Set within a 1000 acre walled estate, 30 minutes north west of Dublin, the "Montgomerie" is the second of two golf courses on the site, the first being the O'Meara Course which opened for play in July 2002. Despite being a parkland setting, the 7,300 yard course is very much remniscent of a traditional links philosophy featauring rolling fairways, gently undulating greens as well as steep faced deep cavernous bunkers. The course is set on the more open landscape of the site, offering views of the Rye Water Lake, which comes into play on the 18th when the hole runs parallel to and then across the water to the green. |
