Golf in DUBAI' was established to act as the international representative of all Dubai golf clubs, while at the same time promoting Dubai as a unique golfing destination.
Colin Montgomerie who joined a shortlist of top golf professionals to endorse Golf in Dubai when on 1st October 2002, The Montgomerie at Emirates Hills, Dubai's golf course and Academy were officially opened. The club has since managed to generate the kind of interest that affords it a client base of over 40,000 local and international golf rounds annually. On Monday 23rd January 2006, The Montgomerie, Dubai Clubhouse was officially unveiled, signifying the facility’s transition into a multi-faceted golf resort.
A design collaboration between golfing great Colin Montgomerie and Desmond Muirhead, The Montgomerie, Dubai is a links-land style oasis encompassing over 200 acres and featuring 14 lakes and 81 bunkers which challenge and intrigue all levels of players.
During a speech at the annual GolfEx held in Dubai this year, Colin spoke about his affiliation with the area through the Montgomerie at Emirates Hills and indeed his admiration for the work that golf in Dubai are doing across the region.
"Dubai has done an extraordinary job at creating a golf tourism strategy through quality facilities and events – something that I am very proud to have helped with in the last few years. Dubai is a shining example of how golf can encourage an influx of high quality tourists into the area. I come here to practice my game, and have played in the Dubai Desert Classic more than any other professional, as well as regularly competing in Abu Dhabi and Qatar. The Montgomerie at Emirates Hills was the first course I designed and I am so grateful to Emaar for having such great vision with regard to Emirates Hills, a vision which has to be credited to its Chairman, Mohammed Ali Alabbar.
"I have always wanted to give something back to this sport which has given me so much. To design here in the UAE is such a pleasure because golf here is all about having a good time, with a nod to the traditions of the game."
This unique combination of championship golf and luxury hospitality, known around the world as the Troon Golf Experience, has established The Montgomerie, Dubai as the Middle East’s premier luxury golf destination.
Colin Montgomerie’s Ambassadorial role underlines how well-established the name of Dubai is within the international golfing community. Plans for the future include marketing, central reservations, the staging and promotion of tournaments, as well as the planning and development of the sport throughout the emirate and the promotion of Dubai's other international attractions to a world-wide audience.
Colin Montgomerie will represent Golf in Dubai while participating throughout the year as one of their Global Golf Ambassadors. This relationship will also feature Golf in Dubai branding on Colin’s tournament clothing as well as his involvement at some of their key events.
