Last week I was in Bahrain for the opening of my latest design project, The Montgomerie at The Royal Golf Club, Riffa Views. I have been working on the project with Robin Hiseman from European Golf Design and have made many trips out to Bahrain during the design and construction phase. I am delighted with the end result.
It was quite an amazing few days in Bahrain, a series of events were held including the official opening of The Montgomerie Course. Along with Michael Campbell, Retief Goosen and Camilo Villegas we took part in an Charity Skins Event. I played OK but it wasn't looking good after 9 holes when I hadn't won any prize money, however a late rally put me in second place behind Retief, and I won $80,000 for my charity, The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation.
Apart from the Skins game, a Pro-Am was held with Sir Steve Redgrave, Kapil Dev and Boris Becker taking part. It was a fantastic week and a big thank you to everyone involved. I unveiled a commemorative plaque on the first tee in the presence of Shaikh Fawaz, Abdulmalik, Chief Executive of Riffa, Richard Browning, and Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views general manager Michael Braidwood and was delighted to hear the nine-hole par three academy course has been christened the 'Wee Monty'.
It was a fantastic few days and I look forward to returning soon.
Best wishes
Colin
Update Wednesday: I've just won the Hong Kong Open Pro Am, the last time I won the Hong Kong Open in 2005, I won the Pro Am, it's written in the stars now!
