Dear Mr. Montgomerie: This may sound odd coming from an American. But I do want to wish you all the best in the Ryder Cup this year. No, I'm not being treasonous! It's just I'm a golf fan because I appreciate the sportsmanship of the game. It's quite unique. Competitors shake hands after rounds, pay compliments to one another (I've personally never heard a professional golfer say anything like "Ah, he/she didn't deserve to win--they pulled off a lucky shot"), they will call penalties on themselves, and so on. The Ryder Cup is one of the great events in golf (like I need to tell YOU that!). Am I pulling for the USA? Of course. But, when all is said and done, I know I'm going to be watching some of the best players in the world in a great competition. As a golf fan, it's an embarrassment of riches. And thus, once again, I wish you and your team all the very best--can't wait to watch! With all best wishes for continued professional and personal success, Derek Kidd, California, USA

Hi Colin
Just want to wish you and the team all the very best for the forthcoming Ryder Cup. I along with many other guys here in the UAE will be giving the team our complete support despite being so far away from home.
We will miss you playing in the team but I am confident you will bring your vast experience to great use via your Captains position.
Regards

Dear Mr Montgomerie,
just want to offer you my full support in your captaincy. I heard you speak on Test Match Special recently and was impresses by your decency, passion for sport and genuine humanity. Must be tough at the moment. Don't let the b*****'* get you down! I know how lonely leadership can be, I am a 48 year old headmaster.
Anyway good luck for the Ryder Cup.
Regards

I have always enjoyed watching you play golf over the years, and your reduced playing time has left a bit of a void in my TV golf time. I know you have had your ups and downs with the media, but I have always marveled at your game. To me yours was one of the most relaxed looking swings - sometimes reminding me of Julius Boros - efforless. Although I will be favoring the US in the Ryder Cup, I wish your team all the best. I look forward to watching you and your team during the event.

Dear Colin,
I just wanted to send you a quick note to say how impressed I am with the way that you conduct yourself. You are a credit to the game of golf, but more than that, an example for many of how to be accountable, as a person.
Yes, you have had your moments - you have been a world-class player, a fierce competitor and a leader among the European elite golfers. Your successes are memorable and will always stand you in good stead among the best in the game. You have also been criticized at various times for a variety of reasons, not many of which I see as particularly significant. But, we all have our moments.
This said, how you take responsibility for the good and bad says so much about who we are and what we stand for. Handling success has it's own pitfalls, but dealing with criticism, especially when it gets very personal, is the tougher assignment for most of us. But, you do a great job with both challenges and I just wanted you to know that it does not go unnoticed.
I wish you the best in your future endeavors. (Of course, I must reserve some of these good wishes, when we talk of the upcoming Ryder Cup)
Carry on, my good man.
Sincerely,
Bob Sukenik

Colin... I was never really a big fan, as I thought that the reason you never won a US major was because you brought in too much of every outside influence, including, fans, the media, etc... I think you need a singular focus to win championships without anything getting in the way. I do, however, have a new-found respect after hearing you on the Open broadcast, where I thought you were terrific. I do think that's in your future, as you would be a welcome addition to any golf programming. For what it's worth, I love the idea of Langer as a Captain's Pick for your side, just as I think Couples should play for the US. Keep your chin up, as you will eventually win a Major, but it may just be on the Champion's Tour. Good luck!!

Colin, although I am an American and root for my side, I just wanted you to know that I really enjoy your style of play and your humor. I saw you play in the 99 Ryder Cup at Brookline and thought you were the best ball striker there Cheers and best of good fortune. I hope you will consider the Senior Tour events in the future.

You definitely won't remember me but I photographed you at the Celtic Manor back in 2006 with Jodie Kidd. Two years later my wife was diagnosed with terminal Lung Cancer...I have just been reading of your work for Lung Cancer in Scotland. I wish you so much success in this venture. I am taking 15 former Rugby Captains of Wales up Kilimanjaro in September and we get back just before the Ryder Cup starts, hopefully having raised £1m for Lung Cancer Research...Good Luck Colin it is wonderful that people like you are raising money to eradicate this awful unfair disease. Kind regards,
Huw.

Hey Colin. I just wanted to say thank you for all the nice play you have shown us through the years. Since I'm a huge fan of Yonex it's so great to see a gentleman as yourself play that fantastic brand. Good luck to you...

Best of luck in the Ryder cup this October, I think the way you have handled media questions and the responsibility of being captain to this point has been first class. Always followed you as a player (and still do) and wish you more success as captain. Andrew (frustrated 19 handicap golfer!!)
