In 2009, Colin Montgomerie attended the Vivendi Trophy, the first golfing
tournament to be sponsored by Vivendi and organized by Canal+ Events every two years, in
Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche. With its format, pitting Continental Europe against a team of
players representing Great Britain & Ireland, the Vivendi Trophy was a chance for Colin
Montgomerie, captaining the European team at the 2010 Ryder Cup, to get a good look at
his potential players and to study some pairings in preparation for the forthcoming Ryder
Cup.
The giant of international golf lined up alongside Vivendi for the launch of the
European Tour's newest event, the Vivendi Cup, held in France and organized by
Canal+Events, alternating with the Vivendi Trophy. This new men's golfing tournament,
which forms part of the European Tour calendar, was played at Joyenval from September
23rd to 26th 2010. The 72 hole stroke play competition saw the Pros team up with the
Amateurs for the first 36 holes, with the top 65 Pros going it alone over the last two rounds.
